Funniest Super Bowl Commercials in 2012

Well, Super Bowl XLVI is officially over. Thank goodness. I love football season just as much as the next person, but I have not been a huge fan of the games this season. I’m more pumped about the coming year than anything. Despite what most agree was a relatively boring football game, there were a lot of really funny commercials that came out of the 2012 Super bowl. I figured we could all take some time to reflect on the funny moments, just to take a break from “sports news” in general. Here are some of the funniest Super Bowl commercials in 2012.

The Naked M&M

My husband and I literally rewound our DVR to see this commercial because it made us laugh so hard. In it, the red M&M takes off his outer shell because he thinks the brown M&M is naked. The dancing is absolutely hilarious, and the subject matter is pretty funny too. You can see this commercial on a lot of TV channels now, in case you don’t feel like hitting “replay” on the video over and over. Ah, so funny. So so funny.

The Bribing Dog

This is another commercial that my husband and I had to hit rewind for. In it, a dog bribes his owner with a bag of Doritos to keep quiet about a cat he’s buried in the yard. The theme isn’t too funny, but the way it plays out in the commercial is hilarious. My favorite is the note on the bag of chips that says, “You didn’t see nuthin.” Hilarious! You just have to watch it for yourself to see what I mean. It is guaranteed to make you laugh.

The Vampire-Killing Audi

This one doesn’t seem like it is going to be funny at first, but it turns out to be funny at the very end. In it, this guy pulls up to a vampire party in a sexy new Audi, and then he turns on his headlights so he can see. The lights are supposedly so bright that they kill all the vampires, just like daylight is supposed to do. I can’t say it made me roll on the floor in hilarity, but it definitely gave me a chuckle or two.

The Liberating Pepsi Can

In this commercial, Elton John is the king of a court. He determines who gets the esteemed pleasure of drinking Pepsi in his presence. Melanie Amaro (winner of the first season of X Factor) faces off against him and blows him away with her vocals. All of that is semi-funny, but the really funny part comes along when Flava Flav randomly says, “Yaaaaa boyeee” in the dungeon with Elton John. By far the most unexpected moment of all Super Bowl commercials 2012.

The Head-Butt-Worthy Oikos Yogurt

This is one of those commercials that isn’t supposed to be funny but it really really really is. The whole thing is about yogurt, which is an incredibly boring product to talk about. In this situation though, the yogurt is apparently good enough for a woman to head-butt John Stamos for it. It makes her downright feisty! I think we could all use a little bit of that.

The average Super Bowl commercial 2012 cost $3.5 million to put on the air, so they needed to be really good. I think that the commercials above lived up to the standards that high price tag set – don’t you? Now we just have to wait for the hilarity to ensure again next year.

How about That Australian Open?

My husband and I are big tennis fans, but we usually don’t have the chance to watch big matches when they come on. Luckily, we have a little thing called a DVR box, so we were able to record all of the Australian Open and watch it right at home. The men’s final match turned out to be the most exciting one in Australian Open history, and it is one that will truly go down as one of the most memorable events in tennis. If you didn’t have a chance to see it, here are some of the highlights…

The match lasted for a whopping 5 hours and 53 minutes, longer than any other Grand Slam final match in the past. It took my husband and me two days to watch the whole thing, but that time was well worth it. Every serve, every volley, and every drop shot was exciting and enticing. We could see that both players really wanted to win the title, and they we willing to do whatever it took to claim that as their own. Djokovic may have come out the victor, but I think they both won in the end. This was a truly spectacular display of heart and athleticism.

What Made the Match So Good?

The talent was obviously the key to why this match was so exciting. Both players were striving to win, and they were pulling out all the stops to do so. There were very few errors in the match, despite the sheer exhaustion they must have gone through. You try playing tennis for almost 6 hours and not get tuckered out. No matter who you are or what your opinion is about tennis, you would have probably enjoyed watching this match.

How Much Did the Winners Win?

Here is a chart highlighting the amount of money that each of the players won in the Australian Open, courtesy of TechShortly:

That’s more money than years’ worth of public health nurse salary! What can I say though? They deserved it. The matches were all entertainment at its finest, and I am happy to have had the chance to see them.

Are Professional Athletes Overpaid?

Jan31

Written by worden

There is a scene in Back to the Future where the main character tells people from the past that one day professional athletes will make more than the President of the United States. All of those characters laugh at this idea, but that is what we know to be a reality in the modern world. Most professional athletes make huge salaries every year, especially those with a lot of talent. The question is then a matter of whether or not they are “over”-paid. Do they make more money than they should? I personally think so, but let’s let the statistics speak for themselves…

  9. 0

  20. Tim Duncan – San Antonio Spurs (NBA): $22,514,187 career total
  21. Manny Ramirez – Boston Red Sox (MLB): $22,500,000 career total

Even bottom-of-the-totem-pole athletes get paid more than most PhD graduates do. That’s just not right in my opinion. The problem now is that these athletes have come to expect high salaries because that is what the industry standard provides for. Taking that away from them may cause sports enthusiasts to lose all of their favorite players. Thus we’re pretty much stuck in a bind. Our economy is in shambles, but we still have to pay out billions of dollars a year to professional athletes just to keep them around. It’s a crappy situation, but it is what we have to work with. I don’t see professional athletes losing out on their money any time soon.

What to Look for in a Good Personal Trainer

Jan28

Written by worden

Are you on the lookout for a personal trainer that can work with you? If so, you need to realize that you cannot simply pick one out of the phone book. While you may be able to get good training from the first trainer you talk to, that usually doesn’t happen. Rather than relying on fate to get you the training you need, you might want to take the time to do a little research about the person you want to work with. That will give you the best chance at success. Here are a few things you should look for in a personal trainer.

Home Training vs. Gym Training

One of the first things you need to assess is whether you want in home training or training at the gym. You will be able to get a more personalized workout plan if you work at home, so you might want to consider having someone come to you. That is far more convenient and beneficial for your body in the end. If you know you want to work out at home, find a personal trainer that will be willing to come to you. Not all of them will be able to do that.

Former Clients

Try to find out what kinds of clients the personal trainer has had in the past. If you could get a reference list, that may be ideal. Otherwise, try reading testimonials on their website or asking if there are any well-known people that they have worked with. At the very least, see what kinds of people the former clients were. Were they mostly men? Mostly women? How old were they? Has the trainer had multiple physical education jobs in the past? Try to figure out if the person has experience working with people like you because that may determine what kind of workout you get.

Scheduling

See what kind of schedule you can get with your personal trainer. If the person is so booked that you can only get in while you are at work, that may not be the best person for you. You need to work with someone who can actually work around your schedule, not the other way around. That kind of flexibility shows that the trainer is committed to helping you get the body you have always wanted. Finding a good personal trainer may be a frustrating process, but it is worth the struggle if you can find success in the end.

Topics to Discuss with Your Personal Trainer

If you decide you want to hire a personal trainer, you have to realize that he or she is going to create a special workout routine for you that is specific to your wants and needs. This person will not come in with a plan of attack. He or she will take a moment to assess your body, your concerns, and many other factors so the two of you can come up with a plan together. Thus if you want to get the most out of your time with your trainer, you have to think of some things to discuss ahead of time. Here are a few topics you may want to mention to your personal trainer.

Medical Issues

One of the most important topics to discuss with a personal trainer is your medical concerns. If you have a breathing problem or a body part that cannot function at full capacity, you need to make your trainer aware of that. In this case, the trainer will be able to make a plan for exercises that you can actually do. If you are on any medications or have any allergies, you may want to bring those up as well in case you two discuss your diet.

Body Issues

You should also talk to your personal trainer about the biggest issues that you have with your body. It is possible that you are more self-conscious about something that other people are. If you notice a certain area though, you need to take the time to let the trainer know that so he or she knows what to target through your workouts. Chances are you will end up working on the body as a whole, but this gives focus areas that can be important for your overall success.

Lifestyle

You need to talk to your personal trainer about what your lifestyle is like. He or she does not need the gritty details, but there should be a discussion about your basic stress levels, the free time you have in the day, and some of the basic tasks you do in the day. That will allow him or her to make the best plan possible for you. Feel free to ask your trainer questions or give him or her as much feedback as you want to. This will only serve as a way to better your experiences.

Pray for Me…It’s Tebow Time!

Tim Tebow has risen in fame since he became the quarterback of the Denver Broncos, but the fame hasn’t always been good. Some people absolutely love the way this man plays football, but others are less than impressed by his skills and consistent alluding to religion. Whether you’re a fan of Tebow or not, you can’t help but be fascinated by some of the information that pops up about him in the media. Seeing that the man shares the same birthday as me (no lie), I figured I would pay tribute to his accomplishments and slipups on my blog. So, are you ready people? It’s Tebow time…

Tim Tebow – The Overachiever

Before I start talking about some of the negative aspects of Tebow’s career, I should probably mention his accomplishments. Tebow was a first round draft pick for the NFL, and he won two NCAA National Football Championships. He won the David O’Brien Award for being the country’s best college quarterback, and he was a two-time winner of the Maxwell Award for the best college football player in the US. He was the first ever sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy, and he won the James E. Sullivan Award as the most outstanding athlete in any sport. For only being 24, Tebow has certainly had a successful career in football. He’s just too easy to make fun of.

Tim Tebow – The Sellout

I know that athletes get paid a lot of money to endorse products, but I think there are times when they just look like sellouts – nothing more. Take this commercial for example…

In that, Tebow basically gets paid to pose with his shirt off and then walk around a set for five minutes. The shirt off part I don’t get because that would mainly turn on women, but the shirts are supposed to be for men. The goal is to make men think that they can look like Tebow, but I don’t know if that’s necessarily a good thing.

Tim Tebow – The Evangelist

One of the most noteworthy characteristics of Tim Tebow is his devotion to the Christian faith. Some people find it refreshing and enlightening, but others find it disgusting and unnecessary. Whatever your opinion is, you cannot look at Tebow without thinking about Jesus in some way. He’s even come out about the fact that he’s a virgin because of his faith, which is something that is almost unheard of in sports as a whole.

I personally think his religious antics are a bit over the top, but to each his own. As long as his prayers put points on the board (which they usually don’t do), I guess I can’t complain.

Tim Tebow – The Jimmy Fallon Parody

One of the most hilarious mockeries of Tim Tebow was featured on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, where Fallon combined Tim Tebow and David Bowie into one of the funniest characters I have ever seen. See for yourself…

Let me know when you finish laughing. You good? Cool. This parody of Bowie’s “Space Oddity” is one of the most brilliant spoofs I have ever seen, just because it is so perfect. Tebow…Bowie…Tebowie. Gotta love it.

As much as we all love to hate Tim Tebow, there is no denying that the man does have talent in football. I don’t think he will ever be the greatest quarterback of all times, but he will definitely be remembered, even if that memory spawns from a joke from Jimmy Fallon.

Steeler fans reside in Hermosa

We decided to start are Sunday-fun-day down at the beach. I have been waiting to watch the Broncos play and today was the day. What better place to crash, then Hermosa beach. Chill people and great atmosphere. What more can a person ask for?

Well things changed in a hurry, little did we know, Hermosa is prime territory for Steeler fans. My luck, Broncos were playing the steelers today. Every bar we went, was filled with black and yellow. First of all, what the hell, I thought we were in California not fricken Pittsburgh.

Even if we were in Steeler territory, it didn’t matter. I was ready to pull off the best Tebow pose that anyone had seen. Luckily, the Broncos pulled it off and I was able to sport my prized pose.

Everyone might have been expecting the Steelers to win, but the Broncos had the win written all over their face. Determination and Tebows winning passes, led to a great outcome for tonights game.

It was starting to look like Roethlisberger was going to keep a clean sweap, for on the road wins. His 31 yard touch down to Jerricho, looked like an easy way to win. Towards the end of the game, when passes needed to count, it seemed to be more fumbles and sacks then anything.

This game has left me thinking, will Tebow pull off this season for a win? No one can be for sure, but if they keep up tonights antics, they might have a Super Bowl in their near future.

For future reference, if you are a fan of the Steelers, then Hermosa beach is your spot. If not, then stay away or be prepared for a bumpy ride. I grant them this, they did have Steeler signs outside of the bar. I guess I should have noticed this before I entered, instead of after.

Kobe Bryant steps game up with Lakers

Well, basketball has finally made it to our TV screens. It only took several months and several million dollars, to strike a deal. Most of the buzz, has been centered around the Lakers. Whether, it is drama on the team or just a rocky start, the Lakers seem to be coming together.

The Lakers have been the center of some controversy lately. First the loss of Lamar Odom to the Mavericks, which no one was happy about. Then Kobe Bryants steamy divorce, with long time wife, Vanessa Bryant.

The beginning of their season started with a couple of losses, but after airing out the players, they seem to be back to their old tricks. We might have Mike Brown, new head coach, to thank for this. Mike, didn’t seem to have the right stuff to lead the Lakers, but it seems he has proved us wrong. Kobe Bryant, has refused to comment about Mike, this might speak volumes after several more games.

Kobe seems to be improving his movement in his right knee, which he has had complications with in the past. Kobe underwent a knee procedure in Germany after last seasons blowout. During his last game against the Knicks, Kobe claimed to be feeling almost %100. Then he went out on the court and scored 28 points, we can’t argue with him.

They are now standing with a 2-2 record after their 99-82 win against the New York Knicks on Thursday. Kobe has averaged 27 points in the last four games. The first three games this season: Chicago he made 28 points, 29 at Sacramento and 26 against Utah. Last year he finished the season with an average of 17 points a game.

If Kobe keeps making his opponents look like high school players, the Lakers should be in good shape. The game has been good to Kobe and if age means anything, then we can’t wait to see him at 40.

Vikings might have Luck on their side

Who thought that being the worst in the NFL, would work in a teams favor. Luckily, for the Minnesota Vikings, having the worst score in the NFL could bring them first pick for the draft.

I am a Minnesotan, we know better then most people, the Vikings are always doomed to fail. We want to believe other wise but, the years of countless mistakes show us the blinding truth. The Vikings suck. If we want to see a difference, we need to see a quarterback come our way.

IF, we don’t mess up our pick, we could be eligible to receive Andrew Luck from Stanford. He has become the number one pick for the 2012 draft pick and is said to follow in John Elway’s foot steps. The 6’4″ and 235 pound quarterback, has a total of 3,185 in passing yards and 35 touch downs.

Luck, looks to be already destined to be wearing purple and gold but, time will only tell.

With only 2 wins and 12 losses, it is possible the Vikings could screw this up. No one knows how, with players like Harvin, Peterson, Mcnabb and Ponder, the Vikings should have at least broke even. Being a Viking fan, we just have to believe there was a purpose for all these losses. The purpose being, receive Andrew Luck for quarterback.

Hopefully, we don’t choose some no name from an online graduate program. With that in mind, the Vikings can only go up from this point on. Here’s to hope that we stay at the bottom to get to the top. SKOL VIKINGS!

Packers experience their first loss

Dec19

Written by admin

Everyone was experiencing a little bit of shock, earlier this evening. Packers ended thier winning streak (13-0), with a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs(5-8). Green Bay has been one of the highest scoring teams in the NFL, earning 466 points, so far this year.

Aaron Rodgers has been having a phenomenal last two years and it just keeps going. Rodgers was not to blame for tonights 19 to 14 point loss. Despite the loss, Rodgers was able to hold perfect coverage, over the red-zone.

If anything, the most disappointing moments of the night, was the last several minutes.

The strategy, milk the clock for the last several minutes and don’t allow Rodgers on the field.

The Chiefs decided to just kneel during the last minute, instead of showcasing talent on the field. This move was understandable, Romeo Crennel wanted to make sure they would be the team to beat the Packers.

It paid off, If Rodgers would have been able to bring his talent out for the last minute, it would have been different. The Chiefs red-zone coverage was only a mere 20%. Showing that the Chiefs lucked out, on their win and shouldn’t expect it next time around.

The Chiefs, bump in the road, won’t be anything to right home about. The Packers seem to have a full ride scholarship, straight to the superbowl, for a round-two, show-down.

Lion’s player in trouble…again

Ndamukong Suh, defensive tackle for the Lion’s, has been in the press lately and it is not for his playing.

During the Thanksgiving game against the Green Bay Packers, Suh was suspended from stomping a player. After his actions, you would think, Suh would want to take it easy and stay away from trouble.

On December 4th in Portland, Oregon, police reported that Suh had crashed his 1970′s Chevelle. Witnesses said they had seen two passengers run from the crash site. The police officer said the crash happened around 1:15 in the morning.

The officer reported that Suh was acting in good nature and there was no complications.

After it was all said and done, Suh was only suspended for two games. His actions towards lineman, Evan Smith, was excessive in nature and should have received a higher penalty.

Marked as one of the dumbest plays since Albert Haynesworth double-stomp in 2006. Suh, tried to give a lame apology, proclaiming  he didn’t mean too stomp on Smith.

When it comes to an apology, it should be genuine. Millions of viewers watched Suh’s raw reaction on TV. The people know what happened. Viewers don’t seem to be impressed with the way Suh and Jim Schwartz, Lion’s coach, glossed over the situation.

Detroit is known to have a tough demeanor, for being part of the mid-west American backbone but, this is ridiculous. Last time I’ve checked, the Raiders have been on good behavior.

You know it is bad, when you make the Oakland Raiders look clean, on and off of the field. Maybe, Detroit should start taking pointers.

Players need to be held accountable for their actions, just like any other person. The NFL carries the largest amount of viewers in the U.S.. Maybe it is time they start showing some class to their fans.
